Bernard Buffet
Bernard Buffet was born in Paris in 1928. He studied painting in occupied Paris during WWII, and exhibited at the Independent Exhibition and the Salon d'Automne after the war. After winning a critic's prize at the age of 19, he rose to become the overnight toast of the French art world, winning particular acclaim for his figurative paintings.

This exhibition, which is being held with the support of the Bernard Buffet Museum, showcases many oil paintings from Buffet's early career that demonstrate the profoundly religious and spiritual nature of his work up until the 1950s. The works on display also show the clear influence that Jean Giono had on Buffet.
