The tradition of oil painting in Japan began in the latter half of the 19th century. This European medium gradually grew to become an important means of expression for modern Japanese artists, who were able to reflect vernacular traditions and elements of Japanese culture in their works. This exhibition showcases 62 oil paintings from the museum's collection classified according to 6 themes.
