"Oil Painting Tea House Re-Creation" Exhibition

Sensoji Temple
Finished

Artists

Tsuyoshi Ozawa, Aburae Chaya Replicating Committee
The first oil painting exhibition in Japan is recreated at Sensoji. The event was first held in Meiji Year 7, giving birth to a whole new culture in Asakusa. "Art" (bijutsu) was still a new word, first coined just one year before the exhibition, and thus the first native paintings were full of new possibilities.
