20 years before Thomas Edison invented the phonograph, a French printer named Edouard-Leon Scott de Martinville produced the world's first sound recording: a visual document that captured sound vibrations and transformed it into visual information.

This exhibition showcases a series of albumen prints on self-made photographic paper exposed to sunlight depicting a series of holes the size of a pinprick that spell out the words "phonograph/photograph". Each of these holes effectively functions as a pinhole camera that traces the movement of the sun over the paper.
