Kasho Takabatake
Kasho Takabatake was an illustrator who dominated the art world from the late Taisho to early Showa era. His depictions of beautiful young maidens in a style labeled “lyrical pictures” appeared in magazines and were passionately admired by young female students. The designs of clothing in the lyrical pictures draw strong attention even today from women who love antique kimono. This exhibition features around 400 Takabatake works and resources, including original letter papers never shown before, introducing female styles from the period of Taisho romanticism and Showa modernism.
