At first glance, Kumi Machida's gentle, limpid black strokes seem to be drawn with a brush. In fact, Machida spends an inordinate amount of time creating a bunch of repeated overlapping lines using a fine pencil. For this exhibition, Machida exchanged her pencil for a needle, producing her first ever series of copper etchings.
