"The Making of Tokyo Sky Tree®: Construction in the Sky" Exhibition

National Museum of Emerging Science and Innovation
Finished
This exhibition introduces the Tokyo Sky Tree, the world's tallest free-standing broadcasting tower, as a symbol of the possibilities of cutting-edge technology. As well as learning about the construction through resources like machinery and plans used at the actual building site, the exhibition will also re-awaken our concepts of Japan's unique monozukuri culture.

Engineers working on the real construction and planning of the Sky Tree have taken part in the organization of the exhibition, and it will re-create a real-feeling experience of the construction through video of the work and resources, and reflects the voices of those participants.

Through the window of the high-rise construction technology of the tower the show is structured into five zones. Visitors can experience the atmosphere of the site through displays of cranes and high vision video taken of the construction. You can get into actual cranes and also taste the thrills of the building work through 3D footage. Further, there will be a 1/100 scale Lego model of the tower, and also exhibits on the workman portrayed in Edo era maps and ukiyoe prints, enabling us to glimpse the spirit of Japanese monozukuri still living today. Computer graphics, maps and plans, and scale models are all used to show the process of dealing with Japan's unusual issues of earthquakes and ground conditions.
