"ID: Photographed 'I'" Exhibition

Yokohama Civic Gallery, Azamino
Finished
Photography, since it first evolved at the end of the 1830s, has mainly been used for portraits of people. It becomes an important method for acquiring someone's "self", the "I" of the Other. Photographic portraits can tell us about someone's personality, their job, class, race, interests, politics and so on. Drawing on the collection of Yokohama City, this exhibition features around 200 different portraits that reveal the subject's "ID".
