Junichi Nakahara
The painter Junichi Nakahara founded the women's magazine Himawari in 1947. This thin booklet, printed on coarse paper that conveyed the austerity and material hardship of Japan just after the war, nonetheless boasted a rich variety of content ranging from literature, music, art, personal grooming and etiquette. Himawari emphasized the fact that a little care and effort could help to make life more beautiful no matter the circumstances. This exhibition showcases some 300 works, focusing mainly on original illustrations by Nakahara himself.
