Tsubasa Kato
Tsubasa Kato is an artist whose practice revolves around the question of how to shrink - or "pull down" - the distance between the artist and the viewer/participant. Since the March 11 earthquake and tsunami, however, Kato has slowly shifted his focus to creating structures that travel in other directions, so to speak. Instead of the momentary, shared sense of accomplishment obtained by toppling a massive structure just in front of you, Kato's work now seeks to create an experience-in-common that consists in slowly building something up with others.

For this exhibition, Kato has constructed an almost life-size reproduction of the Mujinto Production space (roughly 5.8m×6.7m×2.7m) and installed it snugly inside the gallery. This wooden space will then be moved to Kiba Park on August 7th by a team of people from the neighboring Fukagawa area using ropes that have been threaded through holes in the structure. This performance will be documented and later put on display at Mujinto.
