This event has ended.
This exhibition aims to both transmit the power of Japanese contemporary art to the rest of the world, and also re-awaken Japanese audiences to it. With the exhibit taking place in the midst of the unprecedented issues caused by the March 11th Tohoku earthquake and tsunami, and then the Fukushima nuclear crisis, the timing is also significant. The myth of food safety and the cutting edge and world-leading technology that Japan has cultivated for so many years are now reeling. However, Japan still has things it should be proud of in the world: its unique cultural power, of which one part is played by the bright lights of contemporary art.
The twenty-first century is being called the era of the intellect. The artists participating in this exhibition touch on worlds lined with their perspiration and imagination, and hope to re-awaken visitors to the enchantment of Japanese contemporary art.
