Artists

Alyson Shotz
Alyson Shotz on the one hand uses industrial materials alongside mirrors and stainless steel, visualizing elements of the physical world that we cannot see: gravity, space, light. She says that fundamentally questions about what the universe is made from are at the foundation of inquiries into what art and sculpture are.

For her exhibition in Tokyo Shotz first visited the Espace Louis Vuitton space. Her impression of it was that it was overflowing with natural light, and this led to her ideas for the show.

Born in 1964, Shotz is based in New York's Brooklyn. A sculptor, she uses a wide range of materials in her work and is know for ambiguous representing the boundaries between her varied materials. Her work has been shown at New York's Guggenheim, the Hirshhorn Museum and Sculpture Garden in Washington DC, the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art, the Whitney Museum of American Art, and other overseas venues in London and Stockholm.
