"Female Creators: Women Artists from the Era of Vigeé Le Brun" Exhibition

Mitsubishi Ichigokan Museum, Tokyo
Finished

Artists

Marie Élisabeth-Louise Vigée Le Brun et al.
Marie Élisabeth-Louise Vigée Le Brun was a female painter who enjoyed a close, mutually sympathetic relationship with Marie Antoinette, who appointed her as her royal portraitist. Vigeé Le Brun's sumptuous portraits charmed all the women at Versailles and established her name in European high society. This retrospective exhibition, which has previously been held in the US but not even in her native France, offers viewers a comprehensive survey of Vigeé Le Brun's career, as well as the work of other notable 18th century French women painters, including her rival Adélaïde Labille-Guiard.
