"Keisuke Serizawa, from the Munehiro Collection" Exhibition

The Shoto Museum of Art
Finished

Artists

Keisuke Serizawa
Born into a family of dry goods dealers, Keisuke Serizawa (1895-1984) was a founding member of the Mingei (folk art and craft) movement. An encounter with his lifelong teacher Soetsu Yanagi, along with a formative trip to Okinawa that impressed him with its traditional "bingata" stencil techniques, inspired Serizawa to devote himself to the art of dyeing.

This exhibition showcases folding screens, noren curtains, kimono and paintings on glass and wooden boards in addition to Serizawa's personal sketchbooks.
