Taiyo Kimura, Katsuhiro Saiki
Maki Fine Arts is pleased to announce the opening of Taiyo Kimura and Katsuhiro Saiki's two-person show "Teleporters" on April 1st. Having both attended Sokei Academy of Fine Arts, the two artists have been friends for nearly twenty years. They both work internationally, and for the first time ever, they have created collaborative artworks. This exhibition will highlight these new collaborations.

The title of this show, "Teleporters", denotes the reality of transcending time and space within an instant. Saiki lives in New York, while Kimura resides in Kamakura city and they communicate with one another via the internet. The two try to untie the definition what an "actual place" is within our contemporary society through the process of coupling photographs, drawings, and video and in so, find themselves in the pursuit of a creative evolution.

Taiyo Kimura was born in 1970. He suggests that the slight irregularities which lie dormant in our everyday lifestyles possess a new kind of value, as they awaken the dormant sensations within ourselves. Using readily attainable objects like milk cartons and garbage bags, he exhibits sculpture, video, installations, and drawing works, which are known for being suffused with a unique "black humor" that is all his own. Beginning with the exhibition "Real Utopia" at the Kanazawa 21st Century Art Museum (2006) and the Mori Museum's "All About Laughter: Humor in Contemporary Art" (2007), his works have been presented in museums in and outside Japan.

Katsuhiro Saiki was born in 1969 and has lived and worked in New York City since 2002. Using scenic photographs of architecture and the natural sky, he presents artworks either sculptural or ones which seem to re-construct planar geometry. Strongly influenced by minimalism, he strives to simplify the object to new limits and exploring the possibilities of abstract expression through photography. Since his solo exhibition "Suspension" at SCAI x SCAI (Roppongi) (2006) and the show "Making a Home - Japanese Contemporary Artists in New York" (2007), he has participated in a number of exhibitions, all to high esteem.
