"Experimental Workshop: Avant-garde in Tokyo Since 1951" Exhibition

Chiba City Museum of Art
Finished
Organized to coincide with the Shuzo Takiguchi and Marcel Duchamp exhibition also being held at the same time, this show highlights works from the museum collection by members of the Jikken Kobo (Experimental Workshop), an avant-garde art collective whose name was suggested by the critic Shuzo Takiguchi.

Jikken Kobo's first work was a ballet entitled “The Joy of Life”, presented at the Hibiya Public Hall in Tokyo on the occasion of a large Picasso festival. The group conscientiously incorporated elements of new technology and an acute spatial consciousness into their works, an artistic stance that clearly distinguished their output from that of their contemporaries.

Artists on display include Kiyoji Otsuji, Shozo Kitadai, Tetsuro Komai, Hideko Fukushima and Katsuhiro Yamaguchi.
