"Forests and Art" Exhibition

Tokyo Metropolitan Teien Art Museum
Finished

Artists

Henri Rousseau, Claude Lorrain, Paul Sérusier, Paul Gauguin et al.
Forests have been the subject of human nostalgia since ancient times. Henri Rousseau depicted them as Eden-like paradises, while the Surrealists portrayed them as sites of mysticism and fantasy. This exhibition showcases some 180 paintings, prints, photographs and sculptures that capture something of the lure and fascination of these forests, prompting viewers to go in search of primordial memories associated with these places, shifting their gaze towards a deeper appreciation of the natural world.
