Yui Yaegashi
Yaegashi was born in Chiba in 1985. A BA graduate of the Tokyo Zokei University, Department of Painting (2009) and MFA graduate of Tokyo Zokei University,Graduate School of Art and Design (2011), Yaegashi is presently based in Saitama.

Yaegashi's painting possess an aesthetic quality resulting from a simple process of ordering. Important to note, though, that Yaegashi does not consider herself as an abstract painter - she is attempting to overhaul, at least for herself, painting as abstraction. Yaegashi, utilizes textile patterns as a starting point and as a structural inspiration towards the realization of a painted actual - "System of painting".

While the structure of fabric pattern informs the work, Yaegashi is quite conscious of the extreme difference in media and the process whereby which patterns are created in fabric versus on or as the painted object. For Yaegashi the impersonal, simple step-by-step stages of the realization of a painting are of extreme personal importance : stretching the canvas, selecting colors, mixing materials....And the patterns which serve as the basis for her work serve as embodiments of this process and its modesty in terms of execution and result. Pre-determined indifference, common practice is what concerns Yegashi.
