Kishin Shinoyama
Kishin Shinoyama (b. 1940) has been at the cutting edge of photography from the 1960s to today.

Always one step ahead of the curve, his pioneering activities have influenced many and been embroiled in tangles of pros and cons. This exhibition is Shinoyama's long-awaited first solo exhibition in a museum in Japan. The theme is simply "the power of photography" ("shashinryoku"). Focusing on his portraits of famous people, one of the main genres he has pursued, with the images arranged under the themes of "God", "Star", "Spectacle" and more, this exhibition is the definitive selection of the work that Shinoyama himself acknowledges as "the moment the god of photography descended."

These images of the icons of the age impress on us the various powers of photography, while strongly evoking the period and society that the Japanese people have lived through.
