This event has ended.

Shu Eguchi (b.1932) is known for his overflowing wooden sculptures made from camphor tree. He began to attract attention starting in the early 1960s, and extracts a vision of alternative sculpture hidden in the form unique to the material. His forms are simple, yet filled with a complex and richly tense spirituality.

His drawings instantaneously capture the feelings and ideas that the sculptor entertains at the initial stage of production. They illustrate his thoughts, the process of his creations, and the sculptor’s intentions, which cannot be deciphered from the completed sculpture alone. This exhibition consists of works created in the 1960s as well as recent works. Through his drawings and sculptures, the development of the work by this leading authority in abstract sculpture is re-examined.
