Chen Jiang Hong
Born in Tianjin, China, 1963, Chen Jiang Hong graduated from Central Academy of Fine Arts in Beijing, which is renowned as China’s most prestigious art academy. In 1987, he immigrated to France and then furthered his studies at the Ecole des Beaux-Arts. He has since resided in Paris.

Chen has mastered a technique of manipulating ink and oil freely on a canvas to explore unique aesthetics that merges Eastern and Western painting traditions. During praxis Chen Jiang Hong depicts classical Eastern motifs such as the lotus or the bamboo by sweeping, dripping, and splashing ink and oil with a limited palette of hues ranging from black, white, red, or oak. The dynamic brushstrokes create a great sense of power and vitality. Yet at the same time, Chen juxtaposes the expressive foreground against a quiet unassuming background to suggest a sense of tranquility and spirituality. His sophisticated imagery is profoundly influenced through his experience of living in two differing cultures.

Chen has held solo exhibitions at Galerie Tamenaga on a regular basis since 2006, whilst exhibiting widely across the world. In 2009, his first major solo exhibition in North America was held at The Forbes Museum in New York City.
