Shoji Otomo "A Picture is worth a Thousand Words"

Yayoi Museum
Finished
Shoji Otomo (1936-1973) was a multi-talented visual planner who worked in various media from the mid-60s through early 70s. The personalities and internal structures of his monsters that appear in the teen magazine "Ultra Series" have been widely published in lavishly illustrated books. This exhibition showcases some 450 works and archival materials that introduce viewers to his pioneering sensibilities for visual composition and theatrical themes, monster movies, special effects and sci-fi motifs. It demonstrates the power of visual journalism and Otomo's belief that "a picture is worth a thousand words".
