Gyokuju Funada
The little-known Nihonga painter Gyokuju Funada was a disciple of Kokei Kobayashi and Gyoshu Hayami, after which he actively engaged with the new Surrealist and abstract avant-garde art movements. Following the war he left the center of the painting world and returned to his native Hiroshima to work, leaving behind a large body of paintings that employ a variety of tools and techniques. This exhibition introduces around 200 of his paintings, in addition to the work of Kobayashi and Hayami.
