The beauty and luster of Japanese lacquer has been much admired since ancient times. Muneyoshi Yanagi, founder of the Mingei movement, also found beauty in various red, black and colored lacquer patterns drawn onto the surfaces of common folk crafts. This exhibition showcases some 100 crafts including pieces that use mother-of-pearl, abalone and egg shells, and other techniques.
