Hiroshi Sugimoto "Five Elements"

Gallery Koyanagi
Finished

Artists

Hiroshi Sugimoto
The "five elements" in this exhibition refer to the earth, water, fire, wind and sky that are believed to make up the substance of this world according to the Buddhist scriptures. During the Heian period in Japan, these five elements became the basis for the form of Buddhist reliquaries. For this exhibition, Sugimoto has created pagoda-shaped reliquary sculptures out of optical glass, which contain self-made films depicting seascapes.
