In our contemporary everyday life, images are ubiquitous. The evolving role and function of “the image” has not only transformed interhuman communication drastically but also expanded to enrich our potential and sophisticate our senses. This exhibition will demonstrate various expressions in imagery and art, focusing on the relationship between a work of art, physical space, time, and the audience.
The artists in this exhibition are Mayuko Kanazawa and SHIMURAbros, both of whom work in Yokohama. Both Kanazawa and SHIMURAbros will present new works that will be exhibited for the first time as well as other works from recent years.
During the term of the exhibition, we will present several related events including gallery talks by these artists and a lecture by a specialist in visual imagery. As Yokohama Civic Art Gallery will be preparing to move to a new location at the end of March 2013, this “New Art NEXT” exhibition will be the last one to be held at our current space in Yokohama Education and Culture Center near Kannai Station. We hope that this exhibition will be an especially memorable one suited for this occasion in the history of Yokohama Civic Art Gallery.
