Sunsuke Kano + Kohei Takahashi “Puzzle and Rumination”

Artists

Sunsuke Kano, Kohei Takahashi
The title of the exhibition “Puzzle and Rumination” represents the method Kano and Takahashi adopt when they make artworks and the way they look at the motif and the object.

Kano takes photos of the same object at the same place again and again, and makes three-dimensional artworks that consist of the photos layered like the passage of time, and photo-works that, with humorous sense of collage, free gravity and the focus of the photos. Takahashi, on the other hand, put irrelevant images together to produce (or sometimes cancel out) the meaning of individual photos and the relations between each of them. His work includes video works in which he shoots repetitive processes of phenomenon and edits images of people relentlessly repeating the same phrase.

Both of the artists carefully observe everyday life, picking out something funny that is hidden there, and repeat dissolution and construction over and over again to strengthen the object. It is something like the exhilarating dislocation, or rhythmical rumination, or possibly the intellectual pleasure you feel when you put together a puzzle.
