Jean Michel Bruyère / LFKs "Le Préau d'un Seul"

Artists

Jean Michel Bruyère
This installation-style theatre work presents an artistic reconstruction of an internment camp where illegal immigrants and Romani are residing. Inspired by the Greek myth of the violent bandit Damastes (Procrustes), one of the installations, "Le Chemin de Damastes" (The Path of Damastes), features an empty space filled with metal beds lined up, re-constructing the humanoid movement like an animated ballet. Meanwhile, in another installation in a large white tent space, an emaciated immigrant male continues to perform his detached camp life.

LFKs, led by Jean Michel Bruyère, takes the complexities of reality that the media cannot report, and converts them into a direct sensory experience for the viewer. Audiences will tour all the spaces of the Nishi-Sugamo Arts Factory, from the classrooms to the gymnasium and the schoolyard, their minds ignited by the issues, both known and unknown, of immigration, their awareness of their own perspectives of the Other growing and becoming a doorway to stringent contemplation.
