Art Portfolio of Fishes by Bakufu Ohno

Tokyo Station Gallery
Finished

Artists

Bakufu Ohno
Bakufu Ohno studied Western painting under Kotaro Nagahara, making his debut at the third Ministry of Education’s Japan Fine Arts Exhibition in 1909. He went on to have more Western-style paintings displayed at prestigious shows before shifting focus to Japanese painting with work selected for the first Imperial Fine Arts Academy in Exhibition in 1919. On public display in Tokyo for the first time, this show introduces Ohno’s outstanding woodblock prints of fish with all 72 works from the “Art Portfolio of Fishes” series, as well as original drafts and related materials. Also, paintings of foreign and domestic scenery and small animals offer a look back on Ohno’s early works.
