Seikado Bunko Art Museum
Finished
The great explorer Takeshiro Matsuura was born in Ichigun, Isenokuni (now Matsusaka city, Mie prefecture) and around the age of 15-16 he began to travel around Japan, with a particular interest in the northern regions, visiting around 6 times between 1845-1858, exploring the areas of Kitaezochi, Kunashiri and Etorofu island and publishing numerous books on his adventures.
He was also well known for his large collection of archaeological relics, a range of which have been specially selected from the Seikado Bunko Art Museum collection and presented to the public for the first time, with beautiful beads from ancint tombs, artifacts from the Kamakura period, and an array of historic documents, revealing a portrait of this impressive man.
