As the society of the 21st century becomes ever more complex, design must also undergo significant change. Rather than a design which pursues the ever-consumed “new”, a design which aims to change awareness towards society is becoming increasingly important. This exhibition spotlights just such design, introducing 21 groups of artists, designers and architects from around the world who take up the fragments of our increasingly accelerated information-saturated society and deliver them in a concrete form to our hands. Reading the world with a unique eye, they offer up unexpected ways of thinking and sensing, not only through our visual senses but through a holistic experience, which calls into question established structures of knowledge and information, pointing towards a more active means of engaging with the world. Just as Alice chased the white rabbit only to find herself in a strange wonderland, there is design which may bring such an experience as to change our perception of the world. In this exhibition we are invited by a rabbit into a wonderland, only to have our preconceptions shattered, hence the title “Bunny Smash”.
