This event has ended.

The artist Kohei Natsume(b. 1988) began drawing in his late teens and has since gone on to exhibit widely including a group show in Iceland and artist residency in Nepal, continuing to passionately pursue his career.

Kohei Natsume unusually uses color pencils as his medium of choice, achieving a form of expression which can not be captured in oil paintings and Nihonga (Japanese-style paintings), through the pigments of stones and flowers. Within a single sheet of paper he attempts to open up another world, with a soft buoyant delicacy which appears to live and breath of its own accord.

For Natsume the very act of drawing is an act of giving life, filled with prayer and benevolence, an enveloping sanctuary of warm tranquility caught in a perfect balance between life and death, rebirth and destruction, and motion and stillness, a space where the very heartbeat life may be felt.
