Takuya Ikezaki
The second installment of this paradise-themed project presents the works of Takuya Ikezaki. Ikezaki reconstructs the world with a unique method of taking everyday objects out of their normal contexts. The materials he works with are called “objet d’art,” and his pieces are considered to be practices in the anti-art philosophy of dadaism. However, “objet d’art” is probably not the precise term for his works. When things named by concrete nouns are stripped of their titles, they become simply anonymous “objects.” When these objects are the subjects of art, they can be accurately described as objet d’art. Of course, in the true spirit of dadaism, its is meaningless to question the origins of such items, and even more pointless to wonder about their purposes. Therefore, just as Ikezaki gives the objects he uses latitude, the viewer is asked to suspend judgment given the difficulty of defining things that have been separated from their original functions. At the same time, these objects may surreptitiously be given new purposes. In this way, the composite expressions of the reimagined objects distance themselves from the anti-art world, and without being aware of it, the viewer is enveloped in Ikezaki’s fictional world, fully experiencing his thrilling paradise.
