F/T13 “Rabih Mroué Series: 33rpm and a Few Seconds”

Tokyo Metropolitan Theatre
Finished

Artists

Lina Saneh, Rabih Mroué
Lina Saneh and Rabih Mroué continue to tackle the history and complex situation of Lebanon with works such as “Photo Romance” (F/T09 Autumn), a play that through film stills depicted the realities, hopes, and pain of film making, censorship, and mass demonstrations. As artists portraying the Middle East, Saneh and Mroué create topical works that boldly spotlight the lives of individuals in the tumultuous time of Arab Spring.

Set in the room of an artist and revolutionary who has committed suicide, “33rpm and a Few Seconds” shows a Facebook page continuing to update and a mobile phone that keeps receiving texts. To whom does this death really belong? For whom are these messages meant? With neither the deceased nor the senders of the messages physically in the room, communication carries on even in the absence of people, evoking the present Arab world still searching for its destination.
