Artists

Léonard Foujita
Léonard Foujita (Tsuguharu Fujita, 1886–1968), the painter celebrated for his “milky white-skinned” female portraits, reached acclaim in Paris during the era of the Ecole de Paris for his female nudes, self-portraits, and cat-themed works. After World War II he took up children as his central theme, and began to experiment with many innovative ideas, as seen in the “Little Artisans” series. This exhibition features around 180 examples of Foujita’s work ranging from his early to latter day period, drawing largely upon the Foujita collection of the Pola Museum of Art, the largest Foujita collection in Japan.
