In what marks his 20th solo exhibition at Taka Ishii Gallery, Araki presents a collection of 50 works in his continued merge of the erotic with the real. Constantly imbued with the questions of human relationships, the essential elements of Araki’s work, Eros and Thanatos, depict such tensions in a variety of lights, in turn giving rise to numerous interpretations. With the simple expression of the photogravure he asserts the appeal of erotic-realism and opens up a sense of eroticism which exists before the formation of relations between one person and another, extending the multitude of forms these relationships may take. This exhibition offers yet another glimpse into the world of Araki and his continuous endeavor to capture the array of moments encountered in people’s lives.
