This event has ended.

The “Hasshin//Itabashi” series is designed to place a spotlight on artists living and working in Itabashi ward. In this year’s exhibition the artists Tokio Maruyama and Yoshiko Maruyama take on the role of commissioners and gather together a group of artists under the title of “Gap Dynamics”. This is a term borrowed from forest ecology in which the falling of a tree in a forest comes to open a gap in the foliage, allowing sunlight to enter below and raise new life. In this exhibition they apply this term to the condition of society and the wounds that it suffers, particularly referencing the post 3.11 era. Here they question for how long a wound remains as such, and at one point it may open up new life, tackling this proposition through a dynamic range of expression fro installation, painting and sculpture to photography and performance, searching out the life force which is born through art.
