Hara Museum ARC
Finished

Artists

Maruyama Okyo, Sesson, Eitoku Kano et al.
“Celadon vase with long neck on globular body,” a designated National Treasure and one of the collection’s most representative works, will be on display in both part I and II of the exhibition. As a masterpiece among the celadon vases that have come to Japan from China, its beauty lies in the harmonious balance between its pale blue glaze, smooth surface, and soft roundness.

Paintings will be divided among the two parts of the exhibition. In part I, the focus will be sumi-ink paintings, including “Portrait of Lie Zi” by Sesson and “Tiger in a Bamboo Grove” by Eitoku Kano. Part II will focus on the human form, including “Female Passing through a Reed Portiere” (Important Cultural Property), a forerunner of the ukiyoe beautiful women genre, and “Rei Shojo with flower basket” by Jasoku. Meanwhile, the picture scroll “Landscape of Yodo River by Maruyama Okyo” will be displayed with different sections shown in parts I and II, giving viewers a detailed and varied look at life on both banks of the river from a unique spatial point of view.
