“The Painters’ Eyes, the Sculptors’ Hands”

Artizon Museum
Finished

Artists

Edgar Degas, Gustave Moreau, Claude Monet, Pierre-Auguste Renoir, Yuzo Saeki, Antoine Bourdelle, François-Auguste-René Rodin et al.
Painting and sculpture are two distinct mediums and yet since the later 19th century they have often been linked through their combination in exhibition display, as well as the pursuits of those such as Edgar Degas, finding both sculpture and painting to be vital media for artistic expression. In 1889 the Monet-Rodin Exhibition at the Georges Petit Gallery, exhibited paintings by Claude Monet side by side the sculptures of Auguste Rodin, raising praise from art critic Octave Mirbeau, saying, “They have shown us these two forms of art, painting and sculpture, in this century’s most outstanding and extraordinary way.”
Here this exhibition features 160 paintings and sculptures from the collection of the Bridgestone Museum of Art, accompanied by the works of Rodin, Bourdelle, Zadkine, Archipenko, and Brancusi in the sculpture gallery.
