Faye, a young man from Senegal who has dreamt of becoming a boxer since childhood, comes to Paris hoping to win a title. He meets a Parisian on a train from Marseille who tells him all about life in the city, falls briefly in love in the Boulogne Forest, and visits a strange fortune teller. In a letter to his mother composed in an attic, he conjures up simple, charming images of an idyllic youth in Paris. He writes, “Paris is my ring.”
