At one glance the sculptural works of Reina Kakurezaki may be easily classified as “cute”. However the sense of her work is not that simple. It is more like the poisoned apple given to Snow White by the wicked witch, set to paralyze the viewer and set them within a labyrinth of strange thought. And as the viewer wanders within this maze, they are oblivious to the transformation of this witch, and come to think that this poison is in fact medicine.
Last year Kakurezaki was awarded the Development of Rising Artists Award, Grand Prize, Okayama and this solo exhibition marks her first exhibition in Kanto since receiving the award.
