A Toast to the Drinking Glass―In History and Life
Suntory Museum of Art
This event has ended.
The attraction of glass lies in its luster and its clarity. Yet glass was not always clear; it only became so from around the 8th century BCE. As the contents could thus be seen and enjoyed, glass was soon put to use around the world in the making of various drinking vessels. It thus became associated with alcoholic beverages such as wine and beer.
This exhibition introduces glass vessels dating from ancient times to the present, while focusing in particular on artworks depicting scenes with drinking glasses.
