Titled Film Stills: Publicity Photos for Japanese Cinema

National Film Archive of Japan
Finished
It is through the still image of promotion materials that we first come to encounter a film, and it is the role of the still photographer to capture the essence of time based cinema in a single shot. This exhibition highlights the often overlooked work of the film still photographer, with a wide range of award winning iconic images, work from famous photographers, even examples of photographs which have survived beyond the film itself, combined with a collection of photographer/editor Kyoichi Tsuzuki's film posters, to reveal yet another side of film culture.
