The mysterious children in Kae Higuchi’s work seem somehow familiar. They appear and vanish in the artist’s memory, and she depicts their innocent, candid expressions and fragments of their sometimes melancholy, humor-filled souls with an intriguing perspective.
Higuchi’s uniqueness lies in her acute awareness of the passing of time in everyday life and the gradual, often unnoticed changes brought about by its elapse. We can see each of these delicately perceived moments, carved out by her sharp sensibility, reflected in the eyes of the children in her pieces.
