First sprouting in 1950’s Britain and coming to blossom in 1960’s America, “Pop Art”, as its name suggests proved to be popular movement which took the world by storm. With the imagery of everyday goods, waste, advertizing, cartoons and celebrities portrayed in simple lines and bold colors, Pop Art tied the world of mass production and consumer society to universal themes of the sacred and the profane, illusion and reality and life and death. This exhibition presents iconic works from the masters of pop art, along with the work of contemporary artists who have inherited the pop tradition.
