Talion Gallery presents an exhibition of 3 young artists who push the limits of image and form.
Hiroto Kobayashi’s layering of countless brush strokes of white paint in a trace of endless impressions upon the surface, removed of color in a mass of mere amber and silver white, shifts between form and abstraction, image and matter as the very outline of the painting’s motif is broken down. And with the dynamism of the brush we not only divine a fragment of the world, but also the very thirst towards the action of painting.
Shoko Toda creates installations incorporating objects and moving image to give rise to a rhythm found in the tying of distant places and seemingly dissimilar objects. As glimpses of the everyday are projected upon a screen, various objects such as metal and wood are suspended between the projector and the screen itself as if one section of the video has been rematerialized in the space, bringing a new physicality to the optics of moving image, with the trickery of image and object appearing to tie the viewer to that very place.
Through the layers of hatching with a fine pencil Sayuri Miyashita creates work filled with shadows, with drawings of hand shadows falling upon tables in a form of meta image. As the table acts as a support for this shadow, the very ontology of image and frame is brought into question. In this new series of work Miyashita uses black paper upon which the dim light of pencil brings forth a delicate image in a new development of this technique.
