Artists

Kumi Machida
10-12 new paintings and drawings by the winner of the 2007 Sovereign Asian Art Prize. Machida’s work features sharp lines and restrained coloring on Japanese kumohada paper. Utilizing oriental painting techniques such as mokkotsu, she expresses familiar feelings of emotional turmoil and self-consciousness through a blend of realism and minimalism. Her work, including pieces in the Japan Society’s group show Bye Bye Kitty!!!, has been exhibited in Germany, Norway, and New York, as well as Japan. Seigensha Art Publishing released her first book in 2012.
