Artists

Nobuhiro Shimura
Nobuhiro Shimura, who has made the act of “casting light” a personal theme, presents video installations consisting of real images of familiar objects and landscapes projected on to particular areas and materials, transforming the meaning of the space in which the work is installed. Having presented such works such international festivals and exhibitions as the Aichi Triennial 2010, Aichi, and Experimenta, Melbourne, 2012, he has also tackled spaces outside of the gallery, within the urban landscape, but the common thread which runs throughout his works is memory and time, expressed through the particular relationship between image and screen.

This exhibition is a result of the artist’s wish to produce a “sculpture like an afterimage”, expressing his position as an artist dealing with a medium of intangibility. Here he presents a new installation using wax and stones which has come to grow interest in since participating in the AIR program in Akiyoshidai International Art Village, Yamaguchi, between January to March, 2013.
