Yoshikatsu Tamekane
Over 15 years Yoshikatsu Tamekane has come to foster his own particular style of woodblock printing, from early work which dealt the travels of the heart, to the themes of hope and renewal emerging after the Great East Japan Earthquake. Tamekane comments that he attempts to bring shape to that which while deeply treasured is unseen, taking hope, the future, wind and light, dreams and the flow of time, and life itself and rendering them visible through abstract expression. In this approach he draws on the traditional techniques of Ukiyo-e, combined with the gold, silver and mica of nighonga and oil based ink collagraphs, creating a most original effect which he has shared with groups of artists across America, Paris and Slovenia.
