Tokyo Photographic Art Museum
Finished
Each year, World Press Photo invites photographers throughout the world to participate in the World Press Photo Contest, the premier international competition in photojournalism. All entries are judged in Amsterdam by an independent international jury of 19 experts. The prizewining images are displayed in an annual exhibition that tours to 100 locations in 45 countries, and is seen by millions of visitors.

In 2012, 5,666 photographers from 124 countries submitted 103,481 entries. The 2012 World Press Photo of the Year winner was Paul Hansen’s “Gaza City, Palestinian Territories” for The Dagens Nyheter, depicting the sadness and anger of men carrying the bodies of two young children killed by Israeli missiles.
